What is the Dark Web?
The myths and truths about the hidden part of the internet
The Dark Web. It sounds like some mythical kingdom where cybercriminals operate anonymously and are masked in secrecy as well as dealers sell drugs and weapons illegally. While the dark web does provide a haven for criminals, it also provides the solution for one of the biggest problems of the modern society, The Privacy. The dark web is a place where you can enjoy a higher level of privacy as your activities can not be tracked by anybody and you can remain anonymous.
Dark Web, Deep Web and Surface Web: The three levels of the world wide web
Surface Web The surface web is the indexed web that can be accessible to search engines. The surface web contains over 4.6 billion pages and that is roughly only 1 % of the total web content.
Dark Web: It consists of anything that is not commonly indexed on the surface web and on search engines like Google. It forms a part of the deep web and can only be accessed using special software, such as the Tor (The Onion Router) browser. It contributes to about 45 % of the web content
Deep Web: The deep web is also known as the hidden web or invisible web, and it is comprised of any content not accessible to search engines. Estimated to be 500 times larger than the surface web, the deep web includes such content as proprietary corporate data, confidential public data, and commercial information accessible only to select groups of people
Accessing the Dark Web Safely: You have to download the Tor (The Onion Router) Browser, which can access the hidden websites of the dark web. You can also use Tor just to browse the internet as you normally did but you will notice that accessing the web through Tor can be a little slower.
The best search engines that can be used in dark web are, DuckDuckGo (https://www.duckduckgo.com) and Startpage (https://www.startpage.com ).
Using Tor Browser and accessing dark Web for legitimate purposes is fine, but you need to know how to navigate the dungeons, as a wrong click may land you in trouble.
