It is now the year 2019 and the advancement of science, technology and medicine have risen rapidly. However one issue that still remains is the inequality between men and women. Which aspects of life show a difference between men and women? Why are women treated differently around the world?

Education and working is a major part of our lives which we should all be entitled to obtain. This is not the case in many different countries for example; women in Saudi Arabia are still discouraged from working jobs that would put them in contact with men. In addition, women get paid less than males even when both parties have the same job role. Tesco is a major retailer that faced 4 billion pounds towards equal pay claim. Thousands of women who work in Tesco stores will be receiving back pay totalling £20,000 and lawyers have stated that hourly paid females earn severely less than men

Furthermore, there are less significant factors that still show the inequality between the genders. For example, women are a minority in the technology industry and only make up 2.5% of the Chief Executive Officers (CEO). In Media, women are shown only thirty-two percent of the time. Government members are also dominated by men and this solidifies the gap that remains between males and females.

It has been stated that only six countries have equal rights to both men and women which include: Belgium, Denmark, France, Latvia, Luxembourg and Sweden. They scored full marks on many different aspects such as receiving a pension, working rights and freedom of movement.

In Coventry 42 per cent of women believe they have experienced gender discrimination in their workplace and nearly 60 per cent agree that women are under pressure to look good at all times.

Forty-seven per cent said they thought it was likely that male colleagues are being paid more for the same work, but 78 per cent admitted they had never raised equal pay as an issue with their employer.

The question to why women are treated differently is subjective and complex. One factor is that there are differences in our genetics. Women have to carry their child which affects their work and can be a reason why a company would rather hire a man. This is against the law in many countries but this still occurs. Men are physically stronger which make women vulnerable in different positions. This is why more women suffer from domestic abuse. Females are naturally more likely to want to stay home with their children due to their motherly instincts. Media shows more men as superheroes and this influences people at a young age. They grow up in a society where men are more valued than women.

Society has not fully developed in every country and both men and women must be treated equally. This allows us to unite and work together to build a better tomorrow.
