Young people in the UK
The world around us is evolving constantly. Who we are and what people have been doing in their free time over many generations have changed considerably. What do you like doing? What do you do in your free time? Commonly known hobbies in the UK would include Bird watching, Gambling and Gardening among other things. However, the times are changing and though some people do appreciate the olden forms of leisure, the Millennials have thrown the traditional style out of the fictitious window.
The Millennials live in the moment and expect to make great memories by seeing the world and capturing the essence of the freedom they have with photographs and sharing them across social media. Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat and other social media platforms allow for instantaneous distribution of said pictures. Many young adults will visit the iconic places throughout the UK with their friends or relatives. Places such as the famous theme park Alton towers and historical buildings such as the Big Ben and the Tower Bridge are not only great tourist attractions but also a must visit for all those that reside in the UK. Even if the places themselves may not be entertaining, it’s the people that they are with and share their time with that makes the experience worthwhile.
With the advancement of technology and the ease of access to gaming consoles and mobile phones, the number of people that play video games have risen exponent -ially with well-known games like Fortnite that has driven many youths to the screens. A phenomena not exclusive to the UK, has led to many people going online, and meeting new people all over the world.
Although this from of leisure is frowned
upon by some, it is undeniable that the amount
of people that come together to enjoy something they all love is great to see and must be something to be encouraged and not disregarded.
For centuries people in the UK, have always socialised over a drink down at their local pub watching the game or catching up with their friends. There are well over 30 thousand pubs and bars in the UK where you wouldn’t be able to get through a city without seeing a few dozen of them scattered around the area. Young or old, it is a place where all ages are welcome and come to enjoy themselves with a game of snooker or darts or have a nice meal out with the family. Even with the increase of social activity online, it would be ludicrous to presume that people wouldn’t be getting out and about and finding places to meet with others. These places are magnets for people that want to have a good time, to meet new people and have a great shindig.
Playing sports or exercising will always be something that some young people will spend their free time taking part in. Social media and video games can never take away from the sports that have existed for so many years simply because it’s in our nature to work and compete to win. A healthy lifestyle would always include physical strain and what better way to do that than playing your favourite sport or enjoying the gym.
Even when the times are changing, people will never change. Socialising or enjoying your time alone will always be accomplished by entertaining oneself with their preferred hobby. Be it gaming or travelling or just meeting with friends, hobbies will always be part of who we are.
